Fighting against counterfeit has always
been a “long-standing, big and difficult” issue in the art market. Paintings,

economy, people have plenty of capitals and their consumes are improved, their

that. Later, Ms. Tang told the collector that it was fake. She also said, “I
even encountered fake work in the auction. One time my relative bought a
painting of some artist. Then I took a look at it and felt it was fake since it
was obvious. But some are extremely similar to the originals and not easy to
identify.”

Counterfeiting an artist’ works is an infringement of the artist’ reputation
and a loss for collectors as well. As for the counterfeit rampage in the art
market, Tang Mingzhen also feels frustrated. She is quite in favor of artwork
legislature which she believes can prevent and confine the counterfeits to some
extent. Many artists and collectors are also calling for protecting their
rights and interests through legislature.
She supports the establishment of the authenticity-guaranteed
artwork trading platform and believes it is significant for the art
market. Collectors can be protected by
purchasing artists’ works through credible channels. The artists’ rights and
interests can also be protected.
Tang Mingzhen was born in 1950 in
Shanghai. She graduated from Affiliated Middle School of Lu Xun Academy of Fine
Arts in 1969 and graduated in oil painting from Jilin Academy of Art in 1983.
Her titles include Member of 9th and
10th CPPCC in Jilin province and 7th Jilin Literature and Arts Association,
Director of Chinese Artists Association, Director of Chinese Oil Painting
Society, Executive Vice-President of Jilin Artists Association, Director of
Central Academy of Painting of Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese Kuomintang, Vice-President of
China Tongze Painting and Calligraphy Institute, Honorary President of Academy of Painting and
Calligraphy of Min Hseng Weekly of People’s Daily, Honorary President of Jilin Chungshan Academy
of Painting and Calligraphy of Revolutionary Committee of the Chinese
Kuomintang, and National Class A Artist.
